Books are the ultimate life hack when it comes to parenting.

However, there are so many good books out there that it gets a tad overwhelming to know which ones are actually helpful and useful for what purpose.

Let me make your life a little easier by providing 5 books that will help you in your role as protector, guardian and chief educator of your little people.

1. Talking Sex - a conversation guide for parents by Vanessa Hamilton

This guide book is for parents of children of all ages covering a variety of topics about sexual safety, reproductive health, consent, sexual health and importantly, how to have that first conversation with your child and continue to create a sex positive and safe space for your children to learn and thrive.

You can get a copy directly from Talking the Talk Sexual Education - www.talkingthetalksexed.com.au or via the publisher Amba Press - www.ambapress.com.au

2. Parents guide to Child Protection Education - how to teach your child body safety and Abuse Prevention by Holly-ann Martin

This guide book is a fantastic guide for parents on teaching body safety and protective education lessons to children. It goes through the body safety lessons, the way to teach them to children and how to have those conversations with them.  This book is ideal for parents with children from newborn onwards so that themes and concepts can be introduced early on in childhood.

3. Let's talk about body boundaries, consent & respect by Jayneen Sanders

This book is to assist parents and carers in teaching children about body ownership, respectful relationships, feelings and emotions, choices and recognising bullying behaviours. Perfect book for parents to introduce these themes and conversations from ages 3 years and up.

4. A girls and guys guide to puberty by Michelle Mitchell

Both books are the perfect book to help you tackle and introduce body changes and puberty education in an informative and fun manner with guidebooks designed for young people. Ideally, you'll have this book in your library ready to go for when they start showing signs of puberty or start sexual health education at school. Designed for children 8 years and older.
